Hey there! Are you a Cricut newbie or debating if you should dip your toe into the wonderful world of Cricut? I have a few tips for those who are just getting started and the mistakes to avoid!
MATERIAL SETTINGS
Don't be disappointed if things don't cut 100% all of the time. Sometimes a little tweaking is needed so the machine knows exactly what you're cutting. You might have selected the right material, however some intricate designs for example might need the 'Washi Tape' setting so the blade is a little more gentle with your super fine design.
CHEAP MATERIALS
You might think, "I'm new to this, so I'll just get some cheap vinyl to practice with..."
Don't do it! Some cheaper materials might not cut as well and you may come away thinking there's something wrong with your design or the machine.
PUSH ALL OF THE BUTTONS
Explore Cricut Design Space and don't be afraid to push all of the buttons! There's always an undo button if something goes wrong, but you'll never know what the buttons do if you don't try!
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CRICUT ACCESS
Cricut Access is the home of some many projects for everyone, from beginner, to advanced. Scroll through the 100's of projects including card making, home decor and even dressmaking. You can pay for a one off design or if you get hooked like me, you can pay a monthly fee the access it all. You get a 30 day free trial as when you join, so take full advantage of this!
START SMALL
You may have big Cricut dreams and might be feeling ambitious, but I recommend starting small and getting to know your machine before taking on something more challenging. Why not find a pretty font and cut out your name for a cushion, t-shirt, water bottle or the front of a notebook!
You can learn so much more using The Cricut Club app on the Android and Apple store.
